Real meaning of name Skyler...?

Hi there, have called my little boy Skyler for middle name and was pleased with the meaning Scholar or Learned One. Sadly the internet now has provided me with more information suggesting that it means guarded, scholar - fugitive; giving shelter. I think that it has a separate meaning in Dutch and Danish? Does anyone know the etymology of the name please? Does it mean someone who is a fugitive and guarded or guarded as in protected like shield? Any information gratefully received...I am in the UK and also have seen that it might have Scottish origins too?
