How to teach a puppy trix?

I have a 7month puppy. I taught him to sit so far but i would like to teach him more.He is a smart dog! When he figures out what to do he catches on pretty quickly but the thing is w/ most trix he can't figure what he is supossed to do. For example I tried to teach him shake and so I held a treat in my fist and put it on the ground infront of him and patiently waited for him to start pawing at my hand trying to get the treat. but he could care less....he just looked at it and noticed he couldn't get it so he gave up and walked away!!! and advice on some trix i can teach him and if so how to teach him to do them?!
