New eyegl prescription for 3 year old?

diagnosed with accommodative esotropia and given a +5 prescription. What does this mean? I thought the doc said nearsighted but i was a little in shock and having trouble remembering. Does +5 mean she can't see distance or up close? She seems to me to be able to see letters and things up close. Does it mean she will need gles all her life? I have zero experience with gles and the like so any info would be helpful
