Why my herbs stopped growing?

Recently I bought three flower pots with thyme, marjoram and rosemary. In the beginning they were growing normally but I forgot to water them for five days and they slightly lost their color and some twigs dried too. Since then I started to water them every time the soil gets dry but I haven't noticed any growth since then. Perhaps, very slight growth. Why this happens? How can I fix that?
