Why does being y always work with women?

I am average looking, tall and slim but not really much else to speak of. I am intelligent enough to be clever and quick-witted but I tend to err toward arrogance in my approach with women. My question is, why does it always (or at least pretty damn close to all the time) work? And I'm talking the kind of women who are extremely desirable physically and flooded with attention from all sides, yet still seem to cold-shoulder all the other guys around her and focus all attention on me. I feel disingenuous in my approach and I am hoping for some insight into why this game works so well and perhaps for some advice for how to "subvert it from within," so to speak.
